Hi Siobhan
Thanks for your mail.
You may download the Data Explorer here https://my.nti-audio.com/support/xl2/download/XL2-Data-Explorer.zip
and evaluate the sample data https://my.nti-audio.com/support/xl2/download/UK-BS4142-Noise-Sample.zip.
Just click on the audio path (blue color) with the right mouse key and select "FFT and Tone Analysis..."; simple as that :-)
These are my details:
Minimum sampling rate required to comply on XL2-TA?
Berno: you may record the audio in compressed or linear mode; compressed audio offers you a sampling rate of 24 kHz; linear audio offers you 48 kHz
What is automatically calculated for reports? BS4142 specifies a number of parameters that should be listed besides the penalty calculated, masking sound level etc. These include 3dB bandwidth of tone as a percentage of the critical band.
Berno: kindly see the picture attached listing the specified parameters in BS4142
When Explorer is used to assess a recording in accordance with Annex D, how does the volume on the laptop speakers affect the analysis?
Berno: no effect
What are the advantages and disadvantages of logging audio as compressed or 24 bit files which is an option on the XL2-TA.
Berno: Compresses audio offers you a frequency range up to 10.2 kHz and linear audio up to 23.6 kHz; I suggest you go for the linear audio recording - but please be aware it requires 1 GB of memory for 2 hour recording.
I assume a minimum 1 minute window of a recording is required or can smaller windows be used e.g. where a tone is intermittent?
Berno: BS4142 lists that the recording shall represent the actual situation on site; commonly a longer recording is taken to represent various situations on site
Can the results be visually inspected?
Berno: kindly see again the screenshot attached
Regards
Berno

Hi,
I've a few questions on using and assessing recordings with Explorer to determine audibility of tones in accordance with Annex D of BS4142.
Minimum sampling rate required to comply on XL2-TA? I understand at least 300 averaged spectra are required?
